AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Crown Her Mentoring recently held its Queens Giveback Night, an event aimed at providing essential food supplies to families in need just days before Thanksgiving. This initiative highlights the organization's commitment to supporting the community and ensuring that everyone can enjoy a meal during the holiday season.
The nonprofit, which focuses on mentoring young women in the community, organized the event with the involvement of many of its mentees in planning the food distribution. The group set up a food station where families could select items they needed, making the process both accessible and personalized.
“We wanted to make sure that we were a pillar in the community, a resource for people to come to, to be able to make sure that Thanksgiving does happen,” said Torrecka Davis, president of Crown Her Mentoring. “November is the month forward being thankful. And so we’re just thankful for the community that we serve, and we know if you give to the community, the community will give back to you.”
The organization had ambitious goals for this event, aiming to feed 150 families—double the number they provided last year. In addition to the food distribution, the event featured various activities for children, including games, face painting, and line dancing. These activities not only entertained the kids but also created a welcoming environment for families to gather and connect.
Payton Hetson, a mentee with Crown Her Mentoring, emphasized the importance of such events in helping those with fewer resources. She shared her perspective on the impact of the organization’s efforts:
“We’re basically just helping out people that don’t have as much as we do, and giving businesses a chance to show their stuff,” Hetson said.
Crown Her Mentoring continues to host free community events on a monthly basis. Davis highlighted the significance of timing, noting that the event was particularly important given the number of families in need ahead of Thanksgiving. By offering support during this critical time, the organization reinforces its role as a vital resource in the community.
Through initiatives like Queens Giveback Night, Crown Her Mentoring demonstrates its dedication to fostering a sense of unity and generosity among its members and the broader community. The event not only addresses immediate needs but also inspires ongoing engagement and support from local businesses and residents alike.
By focusing on mentorship and community service, the organization sets a powerful example of how small actions can lead to meaningful change. As the holiday season approaches, Crown Her Mentoring reminds everyone of the importance of giving back and coming together to ensure that no one is left behind.
